We celebrate the Festival of Pentecost this weekend! The Day of Pentecost is the “birth” of the Church’s mission. With a lively wind, like the creative breath of God at the time of creation, the Spirit energized the disciples and launched them on their mission. This Spirit of Truth showed them the significance of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and baptized them with power to bring this Truth to the people of the world.

A Pentecost Gift

The Holy Spirit is poured out upon each person in Baptism, just as it was poured out upon the early followers of Jesus on the first Christian Pentecost. During the past twelve months fourteen adults and children were baptized at First Lutheran. An engraved pewter medallion commemorating their Baptism will be given to them during the Sunday morning worship service.

Pentecost Designated Offering

The designated offering for Pentecost is our African Mission. The African Mission supports the work of Missionaries John and Regina Apel in Mali. John is a member of First Lutheran and Regina is from Germany. John and Regina are engaged in education and literacy work, including translation of the Bible. You can participate in this offering by making a check payable to First Lutheran and earmarking it for the African Mission.
